The fact the mirror to give an image of the world 1000 light years away (taking into account light moves in straight lines and would be diverging constantly) would have to be approximately one huge motherfucking mirror billions (more probably) of times the size of the earth, could be a minor stumbling block for this noble idea. The resolution provided by the reflected image, even if the mirror was big enough to give a picture of the earth, would not be sufficient to zoom in, you would be doing extraordinarily well to even see the earth which would be a mere dot (if visible at all).
