Paradise City ….> Motown Junk (GNR cover
All in all a pretty good gig, with most of the classics covered (notable exceptions being Kevin Carter and Australia) but some pleasing inclusions (Elvis Impersonator, Ifwhiteamericatoldthetruth... and of course the Paradise city cover). Interestingly, they did this whole lot in one go, without saving any really big songs for an encore (as most bands do) which I think worked quite well; certainly Motown Junk was a brilliant song to end on and an encore would actually have spoilt the effect somewhat. Faster was a particular highlight for me as it is probably my favourite manics song, but I also came across some new (to me) songs which i'll have to listen out for when I see them in the future. One disappointing thing was that the venue was in no way full, possibly the ticket price was too high. Anyway, I still had acres of space (relatively speaking) in about the 6th or 7th row of the mosh pit when I was expecting to be crammed against loads of sweaty bodies (not that I get off on that kind of thing before you get any ideas), which for me slightly spoiled the atmosphere.
Overall scores:
Music 9/10 (some omissions, some slightly dubious inclusions)
Atmosphere 6.5/10 (it was MUCH better last time I saw them)
Support ?/10 (only saw about 2 songs, seemed a bit mediocre)
Highlights for me were the classics - Design for Life, Faster, You Love Us, Masses vs Classes, Ifwhiteamerica, Motorcycle Emptiness and Motown Junk.
