Bob, since it's obvious none of us are going to get a book out, can you sumarise his shizel? How does he justify that we should only have sex to procreate within a marraige?

to have sex only within marriage is the only way to ensure you are not being adulterous (traditional view)

also it prevents bastards being born and they were frowned upon long ago

also it helps prevent the spread of STDs because the most it can spread is to one other person and they'd probably know about it beforehand and would be doing something about it whereas some random person you meet and shag might only find out when it's too late (modern view)

you what? adultery is when you have sex with someone other than your current partner. i don't think "adultery" is what you meant

tradition doesn't mean something is right, however i agree that in many cases not being born into a proper family can be destabilising for a child.

say you were to catch it, like in France last decade, because of blood transfusions which happened to have undetected HIV, or whatever. Not using contraception (because according to you postmarital sex is good enough) would mean the spouse gets AIDS as do all the children born from that unprotected sex

As Bradley said, the first two points are pointless. :-S
The first not making sense, and he second, I don't believe tradition to be a trong enough justification.
The third, there's no need to rule out having sex outside marraige as a means of preventing AIDs. Especially when you counter that with ruling out condoms. It's like locking a child at home because some silly children run into traffic. And the no condoms part is like making the child blind so it cannot see oncoming traffic.

yes but you don't know whether the other person has a partner or not do you?

we are not talking about whether it is right or not, we are talking about what the pope feels is right for catholics. (in his opinion)

i didn't say it would stop it. but you have to agree that if a person with aids is only sleeping with one person, less people will be infected than by a person with aids who sleeps with lots of different people before settling down with one person and then having kids

sheesh were you just arguing for the sake of it? and why was i asked in the first place, vision's a catholic?

ok, firstly the Pope is 78 not 88, you cant be elected pope if you are over 80.  And who cares if the Pope dies soon, i cant remeber anyone saying the Pope needed to last a long time.

Secondly, wat is your point ?

"life wouldnt be without sex"

I think everyone (Pope included) knows that! the Pope aint saying no sex, he is just saying have a bit of control! I would suggest some of you read Pope John Pauls theology of the body, but i know its a waste of time coz none of you will. I think if people actually took the time to find out about all or atleast more of the Popes techings they would understand alot more of what the Pope was trying to say, people focus on small secitions of his teachings, and with this limited view it is no suprise it all looks a bit ridiculous.

I also think the Pope needs to stick rigidly to the Chuches teachings - if he dosnt who will!?!?! I, being a young Catholic  myself , definately do not agree with everything the Pope says or does, and the same goes for the mojority of us, this dosnt mean we would have it any other way though, its hard to explain, but i think its important we have such a strong base.

Having said all that Im not to keen on the new Pope, for one reason only, that being - he thinks rock music in the church is the work of satan. Rock music in the church has been probably the main reason my faith has become so strong over the last few years! Its given me a way to relate to a God i found otherwise distant, ive be able to find him through something i already loved. So i reckon the Pope needs to look up and realise how many young people have found a new faith in the church through this supposedly "satanic" form of worship.

anyhoo, i think alot of you need to actually read up on what your talkin about before you go around saying all that crap about the Pope being the reason behind a load of deaths. It realy isnt the case.
