Yes but torturing somebody undermines your own authority. It's like setting a double standard - one for the state, and one for everybody else. I also believe that torture is wrong.

What if he isn't a terrorist? What if he doesn't know anything? You've just tortured an innocent man for no reason.

Many of the arguments against torture are the same as those against the death penalty

'The man is a terrorist and doesn't deserve to live in the first place'. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. I THINK that Nelson Mandela was a 'terrorist' a few years back, but now he's an international hero. Who's to say it won't be the same for Osama Bin Laden in 30 years time? (It probably won't, i'm just making a point)
