I just can't believe that someone nominated for the nobel peace prize could be executed - it's crazy!

I think it also flies in the face of the whole idea of rehabilitation. Other criminals may see this example of a COMPLETE reformation, who still gets executed, and think 'why bother?'. It also seems that he's doing alot more good for society at the moment, and it would be 'worth' keeping him alive

However, tbh i dont really know too much about his crimes, though from wha i gather they were rather serious, so i can't really make a judgement

Tookie, murdered 4 people, in 2 seperate robberies in the late 70s. Also, he, and another guy, founded a notorious gang, which has spread to nearly all the states in America, and has been responsible, for over 1,000 deaths so far. It's his supporters, who say that he should get the Nobel peace prize, for writing books, and speaking out, against gang warfare, not anyone official. Should he have been executed? Perhaps you should ask, some of his victims relatives.

if he was jailed in the 70s (just guessing here), 30 years is enough to change a man. can you imagine living in a cell for 30 years? you must do some serious thinking, a lot of people come out genuinely sorry for what they did. the legal system shouldnt aim to punish, but to ensure the best outcome for society. and it was obvious from what this guy was doing that he was no longer a threat to society.

you should be executed for rediculous overuse of commas.

People shouldn't be punished for murder, what the fuck are you on.I couldn't care a fuck how sorry he was. You obviously know little about the effect of prisons on criminals, its a well known fact that prison makes people WORSE. Now go and read some books and learn something, and stop posting such crap.
Does the under use of commas make you happier.

its true that small sentences - 1, 3, 5 even 10 years - often just give the criminal the chance to become embittered against the system, and gives them a chance to learn from other criminals so they come out worse than when they went in.

however...a 30 year sentence? once you've been in jail 30 years you're going to be at least 50. you're probably going to have gotten over your resentment, you're pretty much too old to be a criminal, and you could well actually have reformed, purely out of the fact that there is nothing else to do when you're in prison that long.

he was saying he thought tookie reformed and thus shouldn't have been executed. the point of the system is meant to rehabilitate, not punish. thus, tookie's murder made no sense. he thus thought you were interpreting his comments wrongly, i.e. that you thought he meant that no-one should suffer consequences for their actions, when his point is that the punishment should have rehabilitation in mind, not merely punishing, and thus insulted you.

Rehabilitation is no use to someone whoes sentence is, life without parole,[or death in Tookies case]. The point of these sentences is both to punish, and also to protect the public. Why are you showing sympathy for a cold blooded murderer? If every convict who said how dreadfully sorry they were, was let out of prison, we'd have empty jails, and streets full of psychos.

and quite right too, just because he coldbloodedly killed 4 people (shooting one in the back twice) and founded one of the most notorious and bloody gangs in history,it doesnt mean he needs punishing.
lets rehabilitate him and once he has written a few kiddies books and proved to the thousands of murderous gang members that he sporned that they should lay down the uzis and ak47s which of course they will

i think the point was not only was he sorry, he attempted to convince others not to get into a life of crime, so keeping him alive was justified. sparing him would mean life imprisonment anyway, not releasing him onto the streets.

bottom line is its cheaper to kill him than keep him, and besides, Arnie has his Terminator image to keep up.
