http://www.powertabs.net/

so i go to the powertab archive to try download a vai tab, and all tabs have been suspended! i went there during the day and it was fine, the fuckers must have suspended it hours before i tried. anyway there was this link;

http://news.bbc.co.u...ent/4508158.stm

so apparently no more tabs and theyre being sued.

this is so shit. the MPA = dickheads. theyre just stopping people from learning to play the guitar.

Yeah, it's also affecting the drum and lyric tabs, from what I know. It's so stupid, tabs will give you an accurate idea on how to play the song with the instrument you play on. They're not always correct, but as I said before, they give you an accurate idea. But I usually listen to the song first, just to get an idea.

On what grounds are they baning it?
"You and Wilson have my skills, Mr Hayden. In return, I received a taste for Radiohead and an encyclopedic knowledge of pornographic knock-knock jokes. Yes, I'd like to switch back if possible"

Grounds that they are pedantic and may run out of things to ban.

this is just idiotic. since when have sheet music sales been a significant source of income for artists? all this achieves is another step in making lusic completely inaccessible to punters.

im guessing theyre just pissed at these sites, not for the artists but for the tab book publishers. but in their argument they say it "deprives the songwriter of the ability to make a living", which makes no sense.

anyway people who download powertabs have already bought the music anyway, they wouldnt want to learn how to play it if they hadnt heard it in the first place. so it should in no way affect artists' income.

those tabs are the tabbers' own interpretations of the original songs. as far as i know that isnt illegal. so the only thing roasting these companies is competition. well tough shit, its a free market.

I'd be happy to buy the official book of the band's tabbing, though.

a lot of bands don't have official tab books though

and i don't really want to spend £10-15 on a book which i only want one song from

http://news.bbc.co.u...ent/4478146.stm - is also a ridiculous article, some of the stuff they claim is just blatently utter bollocks

such as:- "Unless the music industry can transition these consumers whilst they are young away from free consumption to paid music formats, be they digital or CDs, they may never develop music purchasing behaviour and the recording industry could suffer long-term harm."

I heard about this and it really pisses me off. I wont even go into detail.
But seriously, how often are tabs 100% correct? If it differs slightly then doesn't it not count under the copyright?

nah, not really; that would be like copying da vinci's Mona Lisa and arguing that yours doesnt have the signs of aging so isnt the same; or changing a sentence in a book and claiming its original work.
