Gay marriages (which aren't actually marriages, but are all but) are now legal in the Uk. Waddya think about it? Is it right that gay couples should be allowed to marry? Do they deserve equal marriage rights? Are they all gonna burn in hell? Or are you just gonna make some kind of immature joke?

All comments welcome :D

I'm against it actually. the major religions of the world are against homosexuality. Therefore you should not be taking homosexuality and bringing it over into religion. Marriage is a sacred religious union between two couples ordained by God and in any religious book of all the major religions of the world you'll see that homosexuality is a deviant behaviour. In terms of the United Kingdom, the laws of the land are set based on Christian principles so it is totally contradictory to be uniting two men or two women according to these laws.

Another thing is that if you allow homosexuals to get married you're gonna have to open the flood gates. For years homosexuals have complained about not having equal rights. They've complained and protested for years until they finally got their way. With that said, what about a farmer who wants to marry his goat? Shouldn't he be free to marry it if he wishes? What about people who want to marry their relatives? Shouldn't they then be allowed to marry their sisters or cousins, etc.... if equallity is being sought? Shouldn't they be allowed to, if homosexuals are allowed to?

Even though I'm fine with gay marriages, yes, you do put a good point there. Once the gates open, everyone will want to join the bandwangon, which won't be very good once we see people with eyes behind their heads.

um......you can marry your cousins

and i don't think that farmers will suddenly be thinking, hey i bet i could marry my goat, there is nothing for them to gain from being partnered to a goat whereas in civil partnerships both parties are given the extra security from the other

Marriage isn't always about social benefits....that goat analogy I made was just to say, if someone has another unusual reunion going on and he feels that he and his partner (whatever gender or species it may be) may want to spend their lives together then there's really no stopping them if two people of the same gender are allowed to marry. I was refering to marriage altogether, not marriage based on social benefits.

Another thing, maybe in the UK cousins are allowed to marry but they aren't where I'm from. I was posting based on laws in my country.

Unfortunatley the religion point doesn't matter in thius case, since they are civil partnerships, rather than a typical 'religous' marriage

You say the flood gates will open? I disagree. What other major sections of the populatoin would want to marry? You say people would want to marry, fr example their own brother/sister. That won't happen. 1 in 10 ppl are gay. Far, FAR less want to get off with a sibling (except in the deep soutm or so i've heard). Also, it would mean inbreeding, which is kinda wrong. Same goes for marrying goats, sheep, cows, etc. Not that many people want to do it, so i doubt 'flod gates' would be opened.

I think gay couples should be allowed to marry in this sense (although religous marriage is entirely different)

Chimaera- since 'civil partnership' has nothing to do with religion most the things you said have nothing to do with the conversation. There's got to be over 50% of the population in the UK that are not Christian.
What Curtis just said was right, though I think their would probably be full marrage legallised within a few years. There are a lot of gay people in the UK that are Christian, and this is the 21st centuary, many of the religous beliefs and teachings in the Bible people don't live by and agree with today, so why not this?

I dont think that there should be gay marriages in the religous sense, but I only think that because I dont think gay people should be christian, unless they accept that, according to their beliefs, they are going to hell (which they generally dont)

Basicalr religion sucks, but if they agree with it, they should follow it fully, rather than picking and choosing. If you do that you might as well follow ur own religion rather than calling urself a christian. It's like vegetarians who still eat fish - REALLY pisses me off

So if a Christian decides they want to eat a cake when they are not hungry (which is gluttony and therefore a deadly sin) they should'nt be Christian? Just asking. I also think that if you follow a religion you should follow it fully, but since so many people call themselves Christian, Muslim, Jewish or any major religion commit sins that their religion would not like anyway, I dont see how it is that big that a gay man or lesbian woman would want to get married under the name of a God that they belive in, can't they belive in the God but want to get married to a member of the same sex? I know as im not Christian (probably for this reason amongst others) I cannot say this of myself, but I know Christian gay people who go to church etc who would want to get married, so I see no reason that they should'nt be allowed to be married under Gods name.

Apart from it goes against the very word of the god they are marrying under.

And there's a difference between eating a little bit extra cake and having a whole lifestyle against the word of god.

As far as civil ceremonies for gays is concerned, I realy couldn't give a rats arse, but religious ceremonies is another matter. If you belong to whatever religion, and their rule book says it's an abomination for men, or women, to ride one another, then you should get the fuck out of that religion and stop being a hypocrite.

Are you suggesting all Tottenham Hotspurs supporters are homosexuals?
