adult swim is a nightly block of shows that comes on cartoon network. most of the cartoons are not suitable for kids under 14 years old

Right did you actually watch the last series of futurama. It was shit. VERY shit. The writing is not genius at all because they have limitless avenues to explore because if they ever get stuck they can just make some shit up because its in the future. And its always bloody obvious what is going to happen. Yes it is funny but not genius.

I don't think Family Guy is the best programme on TV or anything but it is better than futurama easily. The humous is a lot more adult and more observational making cutting commentaries on life and taking inspiration from everywhere combining it with excellent satire.

Er.. have you ever ever seen Family Guy? It's one of my favorite shows, but observationaly making cuting commnetries on life??? It is one of the dumbest shows on TV (and I say that in a postive way). The humour is not clever, it is the definition of slapstick. And Futurama last season was crap? It was the best season so far. And it is far more what you described Family Guy is. Watch 'Bender Should Not Be Allowed On TV'. That is great writing, there is a perfect mix of intelligent humour, commentries and slightly slapstick humour to make it genius. And that was just the last episode I watched. As I said, don't get me wrong, Family Guy is about an inch away from Futurama, but fourth season starting, and so far the only thing that has ACTUALLY happened is Peter's boss has died and Stewie and Brian are slightly closer. If Futurama had a season to actually finish and tie up loose endsbefore FOX which is run by monkeys, cancelled it, it would be unbeatable.

Actually, family guy does make many social comments - G.W.B jokes, calling Mel Gibson a Nazi, and various other cultural references are part of what make it so outrageous

Calling Mel Gibson a Nazi is hardly razor sharp social satire...

Well debateable maybe but you cant really say that Family Guy doesnt provide social commentaries because thats just untrue.

two of the shows they have are reruns of family guy and futurama, while others are like these 15 minute long cartoons that have an extreme lack of actual animation

What I was saying is that you can't use that as a reason for why Family Guy is better than Futurama as Futurama has a lot more cleverly disguised ones than 'GWB sucks', then Peter falling into the floor the next frame, as funny as that is.
