Now i know your wondering, what is a punk doing near a snow patrol cd :D hehe but i got it from my dad and was quite dissapointed. Too soft and slow and dull for my liking. Your thoughts?

Can't see what the hype is about, personally. It's not that they're too slow, dull, happy, sad, or any one thing in particular, I just don't like really their sounds. At all.
This is the modern way.

my first thought is that you're wrong

i generally don't like slow music such as coldplay and that type of stuff but snow patrol changed that for me, their songs are simple but they are still well written (apart from maybe "how to be dead")

what's more they're absolute singalong anthems

Its fairly bog standard stuff tbh...but its bloody easy to listen to which is what lots of people want.

i think it's a great album - very listenable, certainly not too slow, what are you on about? obviously compared to punk you're going to say it's slow, but if it's their latest album we're talking about (which is less indie and coldplay-like than their previous work) then there aren't many songs on it I'd actually consider to be slow - Run, certainly, which is a great song (overplayed though, which sadly has made me go off it a bit). I think, all in all, the album is very weel put together, and very easy to listen to from start to finish.

"Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking" is one of my favourite songs ever. The guitar (a bass possibly?) is very intense, even though 'slow' - and I love songs that suddenly unleash a lot of energy after a more quiet build-up

the intense sound you are referring to is a cello providing the bass, and a violin playing in the quieter parts of the song. string sections are always good for adding a bit of atmosphere.

i think the song's quite good, with the high gain guitar played over the chorus providing dynamic contrast. if you're into the whole dynamic contrast thing, Nirvana are the band who have probably done this to greatest commercial success, as it is the key feature of the vast majority of their songs.

ahh touche lol. After hearing Run too many times, it got boring after a while, but spitting games, with its faster rythm, is one of the best songs on the album.

I personally am in love with the whole album. I find some of the songs really intense (Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking), but others I find really easy listening and relaxing. They fit into any scene and create a good atmosphere. The piano (?? I'm not good at spotting instruments :|) creates a good mood in the songs too. And yes, I must agree, they are ace songs to sing along to. :D

You're a punk? The Blink-182, My Chemical Romance and lostprophets had me thinking otherwise. ;)

They got it right with Spitting Games, Run and Chocolate, which are outstanding tracks on an otherwise very average album.
