Bashing religion has becoming soemthing of a taboo and we hear all this 'atheists are just as bad' bull crap. WTF???

Ah, I mean to start of a nuetral post is needed. Basically the links thread has enough religious links to warrant a seperate thread, and since it is a fundamental part of people's beliefs, I think it warrants a seperate thread.

I'm guessing most of us here are agnostic/atheistic in opinion in which case the arguements will bve one sided, but it's good to be on the correct side no matter how big :-P

I don't think there are enough elitists here to burn me for all the sacriligious in this post, so to begin, a link.

More to come, I hope to keep this alive. :-)

6-6-06 <_<

Anyway, I don't follow any religion, but I've seen many people being positively affected by them, so I tolerate them.

I want to see the episode, the worst Englands got was the American wife-swap with the Christians and the gay guys.

The one thing I really hate is 'they'll be in my prayer books'.

I am religious. I believe in God. I question everything around me, thats why |I am en-route to doing a Philosophy degree. Yet, I have come to the conclusion that He exists.

HolteEnder, I have respect for people who believe in god, it's merely coming to a different conclusion, but I don't respect people who believe in religions.

Also bob, pretty much everywhere in forums online, it's becoming cool to not mention it.

PS Anyone got stuff of the other side, bashing atheists, cuz we want to keep this fairly central.

how can you 'conclude' God exists? Surely there is no evidence of His work, and all the Bible/Torah/Qu'ran asks for is faith in His existence?

I suppose its all a question of faith. Some people would look at us and say that we were made by God as the Human body is so complex, others say evolution. Im not sure. I think God had a part to play in it.. Or how the universe was created, I believe that He started the process, and I have come to that logically, not just blind faith. I wouldn't say I was any religion in particular, I just believe there is a God.

i suppose that's what I'm asking... what 'logic' could you possible use to prove the existence of God? If there was a logical way to demonstrate His existence, surely that would settle a debate humans have been having for centuries? What logic did you use to conclude that God must exist?

If youre using the term logic as strictly as possible, then i suppose no, I cant explain logically. There needed to be something that created the universe though, the uncaused cause. That is God. There cn be no other logical explanation.

Aye, but in my eyes God would be a metaphor for something random and something completly irrelevent to modern life. Or any life since 'God' started the universe.

BANG

I wanna have sex with that news reporter for that.

Holteender, you said you can't explain logically and then sai God is the only logical explaination. If you can accept somehting as impossible as that a god has always been there (nothing created Him), I believe it shouldn't be so hard to think the universe had no creator / IT has always been there.

Ok, lets look at it this way. We are not necessary beings. we don't have to be on this earth. If you take that into context, what is the only thing that IS necessary. That thing is the one that controls the earth. That is God. He is necessary.

Sorry for this, I haven't talked about Philosophy fro a year, for my A-Level exam, so its all going to be a bit sketchy. :/
