interesting stuff. it's sad, because the country has the potential to be such a nice place and a great country.

"Japanese newspapers have estimated North Korea to have spent ~$750 million or 2% of the country's GDP on the Ryugyong Hotel. The hotel was designed to have 3,000 rooms, 7 revolving restaurants, casinos(!), nightclubs(!) and Japanese lounges. In 1989 -the original completion date- they had several construction method and material problems therefore the opening was delayed, but in 1992 the construction came to a complete halt due to funding problems, electricity shortages, and the prevailing famine."

apparently this would have been the tallest hotel in the world, and the 7th biggest building in the world. since they scrapped the project they erased the hotel from all maps and stamps.

1/50 of the country's GDP gone to waste. sounds like kim jong il couldnt organise a gangbang in a brothel.

You're right, it' such a shame how they fucked themselves over. You look at South Korea & how they're developing, albeit while still being poor, and wonder why the North can't do the same

That hotel must be the scariest building to see live. Thanks for that link as well, it was good seeing those photos, personally I had no idea how that city looked like. Well, now I know and I'm glad it's so far away.

It's depressing to see pictures like that. North Korea has the potential to become such a great sight-seeing city, yet it's too lazy to lift its own weight. I can't believe they cut off the electricity at a certain time. That's crazy.

I dont think it's a mtter of being too lazy, more to do with the fact that it's under strict military rule, with little to no contact with the outside world
