Why do Christians hate sex?

If its point is to reproduce, as they believe, Intelligent Design would have us all shoot our load right away. But that's not the case - stamina is preferable. So for them, either we're not Intelligently Designed, or sex isn't just for reproduction, but for fun as well.
So why don't they believe God is also OK with us getting pleasure from it?

Not because 'hate is such a strong word' but because I dislike people following established dogma without thinking it through for themselves. That includes both organised religion but other extreme, fanatic ideologies as well, like communism, fascism, etc. But organised religion I find particularly bemusing because of the element of blind faith in a supernatural force.
Don't get me wrong, I plainly know Darwinism is established dogma, for example, but it's at least well-supported by the facts, and every time evidence of it not being totally correct - e.g. epigenetics - people aren't afraid to look at what they 'know' and work that new information into their picture of how the world works.
Back to the question - I take it from these answers that nobody has a clue?

because sex can be recrational too; contraception enables that, by removing the potentially life-changing consequences of potential fertilisation. Why does the Church not want this happening?
the following text, taken from the wiki page on family planning, illustrates the benefits of family planning: The essence of family planning, then, is to make intercourse purely a means of expressing love, building stability in the relationship, and sharing physical pleasure, and not a means of reproducing
A child is a blessing, sure, but at the wrong stage of your life it could really cripple your personal development if you're not in a position to bring up a child. Not everyone wants to have to deal with the potential of that happening every time the get jiggy

Sure, I agree.
I'm a strong supporter of contraception, but I'm also against the complete legalization of abortion, that's why I was replying to The Robb's post.
I think one of the reasons for why the Church is against contraceptive methods is because they are trying to fight AIDS as they fought other sexually transmittable deceases in the past, and that is by imposing rules regarding sex on its followers. I think they are honestly taking this position with good will, not that I agree with it though.
