Nokia have just announced their new N-series range of handsets, amongst those mentioned was the N91. A Symbian OS based smartphone with a 2 Megapixel camera and 4 GB of internal dynamic memory for storing music.....

that is MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, Real V8, WAV, WMA, M4A, AWB, SP-Midi, AMR, WB-AMR, Nokia Ring Tones, AMR-NB, AWB..... Now that's a lot of formats!

The N91 uses a standard 3.5mm headphone jack so your own headphones can be used, it has radio and visual radio support and it offers line-in recording too.
I like the features, I like the fact that it's series 60 based, but I don't know about the styling.....

Below are scaled Pictures of the iPod mini and the N91 (and the popular 7610 for size comparison).....

Attached File  Comparison.gif (78.61K)
Number of downloads: 2

As you can see, they are quite similar in size.

What are your thoughts on the new Nokia model? iPod Killer? :D

eh? where's the keypad?

also, it's a bit ugly for my liking. Having that many formats is definitely a plus, and I wouldn't buy an mp3 player that doesn't have linein recording. But i find these fancy phones too slow to turn on, certainly as an mp3 player a 30 second bootup is unacceptable

I don't think it will, the i-pod's become too much of a fashion thing to be challenged. Besides, did the N-gage have any impact on the hand-held consoles market?

actually i quite like the look of it and i think that so long as it's not outrageously priced it'll easily outsell the ipod until people start getting jacked for them

tbh nokia knocked my confidence in them a bit with the 7610. it was sold as an MP3 phone (even though it only ships with 64mb memory) but to date they have not released a stereo headset for it. even more stupid is the socket in the bottom is not compatible with previous nokia headsets.

my contract is up for renewal in july. a standard mini-jack socket is essential so if this is the case i may look into getting one. although where this leaves my ipod remains to be seen.

i dont think this will be the phone to ruin the ipod, but i think phones in future will replace ipods and similar accessories. once theyre smaller with good battery life they can not only be used as mp3 players and cameras but could potentially be used to pay for stuff instead of a credit card. the problem then becomes security...

I like to keep my gadgets separate, to be honest. A specialised piece of equipment will always do a better job than one that is trying to do a million things at once - hence I own a camera and an ipod as well as my phone which can play music and take photos, and I will continue to do so until someone comes and hits me with a stick for being stuck in the past...

I dont have a camera or an i-pod thats how stuck in the past i am and my phone barely works. I also think moving pictures are the work of the devil and that you can die at the speeds those iron horses move at.

That new fangled spinning jenny will never replace that of a traditional home spun thread. (that reminds me i spun a jenny once but thats a different story) And whats all this about steam power? The work of beelzebub himself no doubt. I just have a mule that walks round in circles following a carrot and that does me fine.

And i have gruel for all 3 meals a day as i am in the workhouse or down the mine whichever is worse.

I sometimes get whipped if i am lucky on other days i am forced to eat broken glass.

On on the worst days i am murdered in cold blood by my own father and then he dances on my grave singing "yes sir i can boogy"

That's a nice story

Has anyone seen the other two Nokia phones in the new N-series range?
The N70 and N90 I think they are called. Whilst the N90 is mearly just an upgrade of the 6680, the N70 is actually quite interesting. It features a 2 MP camera with Carl Zeuis optics, sounds very cool and again it's Symbian but maybe a little too big for my liking B)

Adamski, with a little research it seems the 7610 sound processor only offers mono sound processing and therefore will never be able to give true stereo output. You may find that a nokia headset will play in one ear (ie mono output) or ya can get 3rd party ones that will play in both ears, but seeing as this effectively mono in two ears and since the power output is shared between to headphones, you'd still get poor lower volume output, just in two ears!

The 6630 on the other hand came with a fully functioning Stereo headset, Sweet :)

no i can afford one and i think they're gonna die out soon

let's face it one of the main reasons they're so popular is because apple has an amazing design team but in the long run i'd prefer something uglier which works until i get bored, rather than something which looks good but i have to take to the store every couple of months because it keeps breaking

I dont have an i-pod, can't afford one. And tbh, i'd buy a small mp3 player, i don't need to carry that much music around with me
