I bought Kerrang and got the free cd with it. Some of the tracks on it were ok, but I just have to rant about 3 of the bands on there.Fightstar confirmed what I already knew, the guy can't sing and they are bland and wasting our time, they should pack up now. Mastodon, the new, best metal band in the world, your shittin' me. Tuneless load of garbage. Saving the worst for last ,Trivium ,what the hell is that all about, cranking their guitars up to number 11 and screamin louder than any other band in the world will only impress dim witted fashion followers. As big a heap of dog crap as its been my missfortune to stumble upon, I'd rather listen to the Libertines.
You can't handle the truth.

I don't really like Kerrang that much. From what i remember, i'm more into the music on nme , but i hardly ever buy music mags anyway

Melody Maker used to do amazing 'new bands' CDs. i still have one that has My Vitriol, At The Drive In, Queens Of The Stone Age, Papa Roach and Hundred Reasons on it, all before anyone had heard of them.

if Kerrang had half the ability to spot rising talent i might consider buying their mag.

fuck it here is the track listing:

1. JJ72 - Desertion
2. King Adora - The Law
3. At The Drive In - One Armed Scissor
4. Lauren Laverne - If You Phone
5. My Vitriol - All Of Me
6. Brassy - B’cos We Rock
7. Dilated Peoples - Ear Drum Pop
8. Hundred Reasons - Change Of Season
9. Queens Of The Stone Age - Mexicola
10. Papa Roach - Infest
11. Lowgold - The Feelings
12. Wilt - I Found Out
13. Vast - Blue
14. A Perfect Circle - Magdalena
15. Raging Speedhorn - Mandan

actually just looked up a few of the lesser known artists on there i liked at the time. Brassy have got tracks on the soundtracks of the OC and Kim Possible (less cool), and Dilated Peoples (recommended american non-gangsta hip hop) have a new album out this year.

i went to see Lowgold in london, they were actually a really good indie band but they were essentially out-popped by Coldplay and Travis so never made it into the mainstream.

I saw Dilated Peoples live at a linkin park gig, they were pretty good but I wasn't as into hip hop at the time as I am now.

Terrorizer mag gives you a pretty good CD with their issues.

What is the story with Mastodon. Kerrang and Metal Hammer have been raving about them being the future of metal. So i got my hands on their albums and was less than impressed although admittedly didn't give it much of a chance.

Has anyone out there been able to break through the pain barrier with them?

think lauren laverne is now a 3rd rate TV presenter? the music was quite an annoying tune but not really any worse than most of the stuff in the charts, guess it just came down to promotion.
