As I'm sure all of you know, every different style of hard rock has a scene which gives it a bad name.

EXHIBIT 'A':

Now, imagine if you were stuck in the middle of nowhere and had no idea what people liked which music, would you be less restricted to listen to new things? Well, yours truly lives in B.F.E, so I have been working on a self-experiment. I listen to random music with nobody else around, and have come to enjoy all genres of music in general EXCEPT: New Country, Pop, Muzak, Creed/Staind?Nickelback (same band), and R&B.

What would the world be like if fashion didn't ruin music?

no offence dude, but how people dress has sod all to do with the kind of music they enjoy listening to. sure you get the posers who make feeble attempts to fit into a cetain 'group' by changing their style, but these people are weak and fickle. if people choose to judge others by their appearance, then they themselves are the deluded ones, mostly jealous of those they mock for their ability to express themselves in a confident and comfortable way.

I wasn't saying people shouldn't dress the way they do, I'm just saying that a genre of music shouldn't be limited in its overall appearance to a single clique of people. For example, someone who listens to gangster rap will probably not appreciate bluegrass because the sound of it makes them think 'redneck music', and vice versa. I think what I'm getting at are the stereotypes of fanbases for different types of music, and breaking down those barriers to appreciate ALL music for what it is.

i agree... its not the clothes but stereotyping surrounding music genres. Many people find something to listen to and stick to it, they find mates within that fan base and can end up incredibly narrow-minded.

You can make some awesome discoveries by just forgetting about genres and checking bands out anyway.. as i cant beleive anyone can enjoy one genre alone.

on the hardcore scene you get scene points for dressing properly.

eg. 1 scene point for having a toni & guy haircut
1 scene point for having nike dunk trainers
1 scene points for having low jeans
1 scene point for wearing a girls belt
1 scene point for having both ears pierced
10 scene points for the winner.

hahahaha.. the hardcore scene is hilarious. Scene points are a big joke but you can still spot a hardcore fan a mile off.

add..

5 scene points for wearing girls skinny-fit jeans
20 scene points for being straight-edge
and another 20 for showing your stright-edge by having XXX tattooed all over you arms.

one of the local promoters down here started off putting a big black X on peoples hands when they came through the door... wow did that cause problems when the 'scene kids' saw them with a pint in that hand!

he's drawn smily faces eve since.

straight-edge sounds like a fucking NIGHTMARE!

I don't like particular 'scenes', for example I'd like to be able to go to a rap gig knowing I wouldn't be the odd one out, but to a certain extent it's inevitable, both because of the origins of black music (e.g. rap originating in black american ghettos) and also because fashion, to people that care, can be just another way of expressing your tastes and emotions, hence people dressing like goths, sk8ter boiz, etc...

That stuff about the crazy, hardcore, scene, edger people is pretty horrifying, like some kind of fashion-commando squad...

More scene point factors:

Silly hair bands
Taking pictures with what looks like blood all over your face.
Standing there and not actually moving at gigs.

I DONT get the straight edge thing either. What's even worse is the fact that the straightedge people think they have something over you. the looks you get when you have a drink in your hand.

The Fucking Manchester 'scene' pisses me off.

The 'emo/hardcore/screamo/metalcore..blahblah' scene.
Try Rock Kitchen on a saturday night.
Or Satans on a friday...or some gigs.

I know what you're saying about the whole 'holier-than-thou' attitude of these people. What they don't realize is that if they could quit being assholes for 10 minutes the rest of us wouldn't have to get drunk to tolerate their presence.

Being sober is all peachy and everything, but I have more respect for a drunk than a dick.

^See what I mean? From the sound of things, you don't have fun, period. I don't think it's so much a matter of self-restraint as it is a matter of fitting in with a certain group of people, the same reason why a lot of people take up the booze. You're basically the same as a hardcore drunk, just without the alchohol, sparing your body doesn't mean that much if you act just the same.

All the straight-edge people I know are bitching 24/7, it really can't be that great. :o

Is the individual's own body. they can do what the fuck they want with it.
NO ONE has any reasons to look down or judge anybody else. its just silly, pathetic and immature.

Oh god, I think I must be too old, never heard of 'straight edge' before. Quite glad tho as it sounds like some bizzare 50's young christian kind of pact like the no sex before marriage lot. Its fair enough I suppose, but just because you drink doesn't mean you are automatically an out of control alcoholic

Yup, you're quite right there.

It's just another trend. Something else to make people 'different'. hm.
I know a few people who are straightedge but they arent silly about it, dont look down on me or my friends who do drink/drugs/sex etc.

Like, this guy was in this club i was in last night and he had huge black 'x's' drawn onto his hand. ok, i think thats a bit silly now.
