What do you reckon the best decade for rock music was? Is music today the best it's ever been? You can either vote for which decade saw rock music develop the most, or which one gave us the best music; it's up to you. Hopefully you can explain why you voted the way you did

its really hard to say, from about 70s to mid 90s were pretty good imo. but i guess i wud say 80s, before grunge came out and destroyed all decent rock music.

I'm surprised nobody other than me went for the decades that gave us the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and basically rock as we know it: the 60's

Pretty much every CD in my collection is from the 90s so I had to go for that!

Cant belive im the only one to have voted for the 70's!!

Without the 70's and their influence i doubt there would be half as many decent bands around as there are now/have been!

I went for the 60s too. Basically you can't get better than the original creators. The revolutionaries as it were. Anyone voting for the 90s and in particular past the year 2000 probably needs to seek medical help. Or at least increase their cd collection. I'm stuggling to think of anything all good about 80s rock also considering it was basically put on the back burner for all the other music genres going on.

As a Metal fan I can't help but thinking we are now in the best decade in music! There's such a diversity and quality currently in so many bands and albums that it gets very hard to have all the music I want. Unfortunetly when I realised this I had already voted for the 90's, but I would change my vote if I could.

While the 90s has friggin Tool, Dream Theater, Opeth, Muse, Faith No More's peak, actually most bands. The 90s had more range and generally more bands, henceforth more good bands. You can't use the 'but they were influenced by...' line because it's not who inspired the most decade, but best decade.

I think the 2000's have been good for bands beginning with 'the', and those of a similar style

Shaggy, yeah, Britian is still in it's "let's churn out boring indie bands that sound like every band on XFM" phase.Let's hope we can diversify, I mean there was a time when the UK owned music. Now our best bands are like Iron Maiden, leftover from 30 years and a rare gem, Muse.

I think UK rock music is currently beating everywhere else, but that's probably because of the music i listen to. I dunno how it's doing elsewhere

they are all good, but i guess the best would have to be today because there are so many different sounding bands with every rock sound possible

my personal favorite is the 80s because that was the PUNK decade!!!!

No, I disagree. You're ignoring fantastic bands which break the current swing towards Coldplay-like music (i hesitate to call it indie coz Lord Love Rocket might take it personally ;)) - The Libertines are the prime example, but I could point at other bands making high quality rock music like Razorlight. Other artists, like the Streets, are evolving the masses' taste in music, whilst other bands like Kasabian or the Kaizer Chiefs are experiencing success even when they are not making typical, stereogenic music
