I was just wondering what type of rock music people would class QOTSA as, and what bands you'd consider similar? Obviously Kyuss and Mondo Generator (since they are/were made up of QOTSA band members), but what else?

Queens of the Stone Age hate being classified, but generally I just settle for calling them rock seeing as their music changes all the time. Similar bands include the aforementioned Kyuss and Mondo Generator, but also The Desert Sessions, Eleven, Earthlings?, Fatso Jetson, Screaming Trees, Like Hell, The Eagles of Death Metal, Orquesta del Desierto, and of course the mighty Masters of Reality head honcho Chris Goss.

Think Desert Sessions gang, a bunch of crack smoking, pedal steel playing wackos from the middle of the desert. Shits and Giggles...

If I'm not mistaken they're considered to be just "rock", especially they're older stuff, in particular the song they had on the Heavy Metal : FAKK 2 soundtrack. Really, though, it's hard to place them into any single genre.

Yeah, rock. I loved songs for the death. You are right in saying that the chgange though. Their sound varies from indie to heavy metal

QOSTA quite often get lumped into the 'stoner rock' genre. I suppose mainly because of the link with Kyuss. So that's how I always think of them.

I look for QOTSA albums in the rock section of my local record shop. I listen to them on a higher plane than mere rock. When God's relaxing after a hard day scewing up everything I imagine he puts on 'R' Rated and kicks back with a few beers... :D

Why are we trying to put them in a box with other bands? To me they are just a rock band. All we hear about nowadays is what genre, or sub-genre, a band fits into, and we get quite worried, in case we say we like something, and, God forbid, it turns out to be pop punk, or emo, or whatever it's fashionable to deride at this moment. I couldn't give a fuck what lable you stick on a band, be it pop, death thrash metal, or anything in between, if something sounds good, I say it's good. All this bollocks about "Oh I hate all, "indie,"or "metal" or "pop punk, is a load of blinkered crap. As for "listening to QOTSA on a different plane" what sort of pretentious nonsence is that. As it goes QOTSA are just an average rock band , and not in the same league, as the likes of Green Day, and that, my friends is an unpalletable, and, eminently unfashionable, fact, which, because of appearing to be "uncool," not one of you, could be seen to agree with.

I think QotSA are way better than Greenday, and by way, i mean WAY.

tbh, i bought songs for the deaf because of no one knows, but I found it to be a truly amazing album, and i genuinely liked it, especially due to the variation within it. Greenday, however, suck arse

QOTSA are, to me, like The Foo Fighters, in that I cant realy find much wrong with them, but I've yet to hear a decent song by them, whereas Green Day, over the years have made many good songs ,and after all, thats what its all about is it not?

They're in a class of there own, I mean if the only bands that sound like them are stems from original band members - they must be special. O, and also they are the greatest band on the planet.

Oh dear, did naughty Misterj say something nasty about QOTSA, like they are just your average, flavour of the month rock band. Well thats just the way it is guys, and no, of course they're not the Worlds best band, not in the top 20 even. So don't take it so personaly, and take off the blinkers and set yourselves free, stop worrying about image, and peer presure, it really is ok to like music that other people like, even chart music if its good. As for Green Day, although they are not my favorite band, they have stood the test of time, and are without doubt,in the top 5 bands in the world, and unbeatable as a live act, and, unlike you guys I'm not afraid to admit it.
Hark, do I hear the sound of sharpening claws?

No, i dis agree strongly. Greenday are by no means in the top 5 live performers at the moment. QotSA are far better. Even though i agree they cannot be considered for one of the best, they are certainly bettter that Greenday (although that isn't necessarily saying much)

Who said I took it personally. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so long as they appreciate that I am always right and what I say is gospel.

A question for you my friend, when did QOTSA become fashionable? And furthermore, when were QOTSA ever associated with a particular scene other than their own?

I think you're barking up the wrong tree if you're assuming I'm some sort of music snob. I'm not. I'm GOD

HAHAHAHAHAHA FUCKING GOD! DIEDIEDIEDIEDIEDIEDIEDIE!!!!!!!

whether a band is fashionable or not has never affected either my assessment of how good they are, or how much i like them - not sure if your question is relevant

Quote

when were QOSA ever associated with a particular scene other than their own?
again, where's the relevance? But to answer your question, they're associated with the stoner rock and desert rock 'scenes' - i guess that answers my original question, too
