Well, London's got the olympics, but is this a good or a bad thing?

Are you pleased about this? About the benefits to London's trade? Are you pleased more children will play sports? Are you honoured to host it? Or are you just glad to get one up on the dirty, dirty, french?

Or, are you unhappy about it? Are you worried about the tax increase? Are you worried about the dirty, dirty french coming over to watch the dirty, dirty french team, and making everything smell of garlic while riding around on bicycles, carrying said garlic, wearing a beret and a stripey top, saying things like 'sacre bleu', 'j'aime le camenbert', being very snooty to everyone and luring our women/men into bed, giving them various stds and fucking back off to france leaving our sexually satisfied women to be severely dissapointed every time i come near them. THOSE BASTARDS!!!!!! Or are you worried about increased congestion in our beloved capital?

Either way, have your say

i'm pleased, for sure; i look forward to going to a few of the events, and i certainly look forward to the improved facilities! dunno how people from elsewhere in the UK who won't directly be affected by the Games feel; i suspect there's fear about tax increases but let's be sensible, they really won't go up much for a one-off event, even one as big as the Olympics.

I reckon the whole of the UK will benefit from the Games being brought here, for example this should give sport a more important place in our society, which is important given how we traditionally underperform. Hopefully it might help to fight the rise in kids' obesity

also the gvt might invest in new sports stuff for teenagers and kids now, so that we have a new batch of athletes in time for 2012... but i doubt it. This gvt wont be around in 2012 (i hope!) so it probably doesn't let itself think that far ahead, the fuckers

I think the tax rises will be noticeable, as they're going to re-do the entire infra-structure of london, and the areas around it, at huge cost, and like you said, in areas which aren't gonna notice the benefits (i.e the north), this will be felt far worse

Another thing I worry about is UK fans. They hardly have the reputation of being the most civil, and while they can be banned from away football matches, they can't be stopped moving around in their own country

i don't really care. its hard to get worked up about something so meaningless. i was anti-the bid before we got it, because the bid is just a political game...i feel really pathos for those who revel in the 'achievement' and see this as 'getting one over on the french' etc. although it is funny how pissed off chirac is.

im happy we got it, hopefully they'll improve transport and infrastructure in london. it should be good for the economy and its also just a lot of fun.

and i like french people. im surprised they didnt get it actually. they have better food, better people, better transport, buffer women, nicer language, paris is a beautiful city (london is not) and they are generally better at sports than us. they pretty much have everything except the politics.

im quite pleased.. not for the sports (im not a sports fan) but for what it will mean for the economy. It'll be good for my region as well... being within commuting distance and with an olympic sized pool.. we'll certainly be a training spot for a few teams.

i think its fantastic. they say the olympics will 'make a loss' but this is using fucked up logic.

of course the TV, ticket and sponsor money won't pay for all the upgrades to transport, new facilities and stadia, but effectively it will act as a phat subsidy for stuff that will last for years afterwards. also we can make a damn good job of it what with new wembley, wimbledon, loads of space for the olympic village in the east end, etc.

and tommy, the french have hairier women, worse breath, worse music, less patient people, greater tendency to surrender and a crapper capital.

whats worth looking at in paris except louvres, eiffel tower, arc de triomphe and notre dame? theyve built nothing cool for over a hundered years. that defense thing is inspired by duplo and worse than the millennium dome. we have the Millennium Eye, new Tate and Canary Wharf to name but three.

i like the french but ffs do ur own people justice.

i find that european women, although they have hairy arms, are also much buffer. i'd rather go out with a buff girl with a bit of hair on her arms than an ugly girl with no hair.

and its not their fault they have crap music. the radio stations have to play french music 80% (i think) of the time so they are forced to listen to their own music, and hence its hard to break free of their downward spiral.
and although french music itself is shit, their CD shops are much better. i found loads of cd shops within a small radius of my apartment in paris and i found many rare cds i would never see in england in a million years. even the HMV i went in had so much more decent music and rare finds.

i personally find paris a much nicer city than london, and the people also. i guess thats just my opinion.

Ha. Tommy you have lost your mine. Its a well known fact that french people are rude and ignorant. And they are also cowards.

I would debate that depends where the hair is. Would you want to go out with a woman with a beard or excessive pubic hair?

As for CD shops in Manchester there are loads of good ones. Must just be the shit place you live. And why don't you just get them off the internet?

I don't like the French and find it offensive they live that close to us.

Anyway this isn't about the french (thank god) but about the olympics.

I for one am not paying for your fucking games. I'm not going to go and its gonna be wank. A last minute bid as usual, jumping on the bandwagon and managed to fluke a victory.

every time london manages to spend massive amounts of money on not a great deal. e.g. millenium dome and wembly far too expensive.

We held the commonwealth games which were pretty good and the only mistake we made was giving city our stadium. Wankers.

At the end of the day it will make fuck all difference with all you southerners providing no real support. If you believe that they are better at sport thats a fantastic start.

It will be an almighty fuck up. I know it.

stop being an ignorant fool and get those stupid old fashioned stereotypes out of your narrow mind.

getting cds off the internet is ok when you know what exactly you're looking for, but that is completely different to browsing cd shops. besides, the internet usually doesnt have old rare cds, which you need to comb through second hand cd shops to find.

and no, i wouldnt want to go out with a woman with a beard. that really proves your point. well fucking done.

you're the ones that have to pay all the taxes while we southerners enjoy the benefits without making any real support? oh well, sucks to be you.

Taxes may well be staggered so they affect southerners more, but the 'crappy' north will get some benefits too

It is a bit ignorant to say all French people are rude and ignorant. It's like me saying all northeners are big, ugly, un-educated, un-cultured, hooligans. Who smell. But then again.....

I don't think your quite acquainted with frivolous banter. The internet has every possible cd you could want surely.

I only say french people are rude and ignorant as phill is French. It quite amuses me you think i'm serious. But i hate the French as i am English. Its the way of the world..........

meh, find french girls unattrative if you so desire, leaves more for me

spend any time in france at all and you'll rapidly realise french women are considerably more attractive than brits. Britain is superior to France on many fronts, but attractiveness and sex appeal really isn't one. The Brits' answer to their lack of sex appeal was to turn to metrosexuality and mullets - HAH!

yes but a higher proportion of 0 is still 0, phil (i kid, i kid)

besides the mullet, despite being an abomination, has a proven track record of success in some circles.
